just volleyball not working

Last verified 2026-10-27 · Only fixes someone actually posted

Read this before a “fix pack”

I only kept repairs that appear in a developer reply or in a thread where a player reports the step worked. A site offering a crack, a DLL, or a “repair tool” is not one of those sources. Do not turn off antivirus because a comment said so.

SymptomWhat was postedWhat we will not claim
Crash on the studio splashBefore changing user data: close the game and back up the whole volleyball folder. The developer suggested deleting its contents; we recommend a reversible rename instead. A player reported success with --rendering-driver opengl3.A root cause, a guaranteed fix, or guaranteed preservation of local saves and presets.
opengl3 is slowA player on a Ryzen 5 7430U dropped to 720p and low settings. Loads got slower. That every PC must do this.
Version mismatch / stuck on an old buildA reply said Steam → Properties → Verify integrity of game files. That a reinstall alone is enough. The poster said reinstall still showed the old build.
Jump cancel gonePlayers said a build around 25 Oct 2026 removed left-click jump cancel. That your older notes are still true.
Stuck running awayThe phrase is searched. No clip or developer note was found.A fix.

Splash crash

Close the game first. In Windows File Explorer, open %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata. Copy the complete volleyball folder somewhere safe. Its exact contents and any save/cloud interactions have not been verified. If you try a reset, rename the original folder to volleyball-backup rather than deleting it. To undo, close the game, move the newly created folder aside if present, then restore the original name. This reversible approach is our safety precaution around the developer’s deletion advice, not an independently tested fix.

The original poster’s later fix was the launch option --rendering-driver opengl3. The demo requirement text says the same flag and warns that the picture will render inaccurately. Another player on a Ryzen 5 7430U with 20 GB of RAM said the flag cost performance and they dropped resolution and quality. Use it to get in, then decide if the picture is acceptable.

To try the rendering flag: Steam Library → the affected game or Demo → Properties → General → Launch Options. Add --rendering-driver opengl3, launch and compare. Remove that option to revert. Do not overwrite unrelated launch options, and do not assume that a report from the September playtest proves an October Demo fix.

Online version errors

Two threads describe an old-build lobby error even after a reinstall. One reply reports that verifying files worked: Steam Library → affected app → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam finish and apply pending updates, then restart the app. Friends should check that they are running the same app and branch; Demo and the closed playtest are different apps. This is a community workaround, not a guaranteed repair. See multiplayer for mode status.

A separate complaint around 25 October 2026 says left-click no longer cancels a jump. That matches a change, not a stuck key. Check the on-screen bind list. For a bug the tables above do not name, use the Steam discussion hub or the Discord linked from the store. We cannot see your save.

Questions people ask

just volleyball crashes on startup. What did the developer say?

Close the game and back up all local data before trying a reset; saves, settings or presets could be affected. The 23 September developer reply suggested clearing AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\volleyball. A reversible rename is safer than deletion, and is our execution precaution, not the developer’s exact wording.

What is the opengl3 launch option?

A player on that crash thread, and the demo’s own requirement note, cite --rendering-driver opengl3. The demo note says this makes rendering inaccurate.

It says version mismatch.

A Steam reply that worked for that poster was Verify integrity of game files. They had already reinstalled.
